«Отдых – дело сугубо индивидуальное. Это как еда. Одному нравятся апельсины, другому – свиные ножки. Мне же нравится и то
и другое. Иными словами, для меня лучший отдых тот, который
разнообразен.
Если говорить о моих любимых местах, то вот они (не в порядке
убывания или нарастания, а без какого-либо порядка):
– Биарриц. Гул и рокот океана, вкуснейшая еда басков и находящегося в получасе езды Сан-Себастьяна и свежайшие устрицы
с местным белым вином на утреннем рынке;
– Эсален, что расположился на трех водах: горном ручье, подземных горячих ключах и грозно дышащем Тихом океане. Меня охватывает чувство полного единения с природой, кажется, что я могу
говорить с деревьями, есть ощущение вечности и покоя;
– остров Сен-Барт, где сходятся Карибское море и Атлантический
океан, где дома забрались высоко-высоко, откуда видно полмира, где солнце ласково, ветер нежен и женщины ослепительной
красоты;
– Калабрия и Сицилия с их древнейшими городами, улицы которых вымощены полированным веками мрамором, с их фруктами,
от вкуса которых пьянеешь, с их оливковыми деревьями, гигантские стволы которых говорят о бессмертии и о том, что торопиться
бессмысленно;
– и теннисные корты всех этих и других мест, где, наигравшийся до
седьмого пота, отдавший все до конца силы и упавший в воду, ты
постигаешь счастье».

“Leisure is a matter of personal taste.
Like food. One enjoys oranges, while
another prefers pettitoes. I like both.
In other words, the best holiday for me
should be multicoloured.
Speaking about my favourite places,
here they are (arranged without any order of
preference):
– Biarritz with roaring and rumbling of the ocean, the most delicious food
of the Basques and San Sebastian, which is 30 minutes drive away, as
well as the freshest oysters with local white wine at a morning market;
– Esalen, which is located on three waters: a mountain stream,
underground hot springs and the ferociously breathing Pacific Ocean. I’m
seized with a feeling of a complete unification with the nature. It seems
I could talk to trees; there is a sense of eternity and tranquility;
– St. Barths Island, a meeting point of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic
Ocean. A place, where houses ascended to such heights that one can
see half of the world; where the sun is tender, the wind is gentle, and
women are stunning;
– Calabria and Sicily with their ancient cities, where streets are paved
with marble, polished by centuries; with their fruits with an intoxicating
flavor; with their olive trees, whose gigantic trunks narrate immortality
and pointlessness of haste;
– and tennis courts in these and other places, where you play till you
drop with all your forces exhausted. And then you plunge into water and
grasp happiness.”

«Для меня любое путешествие спонтанно, не помню, чтобы я готовилась
заранее, – всегда вылетаю по велению сердца, когда ищу «спасения»
в  перемене мест. Cамое идеальное для
меня – не лететь далеко, но к морю, пускай
холодному и не в сезон. И я ненавижу жаркие
страны, пляжи, массовые исходы туристов вокруг. Поэтому пускай
Корсика в поздний бархатный сезон, Таормина – я ищу закрытые
небольшие отели (бутик-отели) и часто возвращаюсь в проверенные места».

“Any trip is spontaneous for me. I don’t remember preparing for it in
advance. I always fly away following my heart when I look for “rescue”
in the change of places. It would be ideal for me not to go far away, but
to the sea, let it be cold and out of season. And I hate hot countries,
beaches and massive flows of tourists around. Let it be Corsica in a late
off-peak season, or Taormina. I look for small hotels, boutique-hotels,
and often return to time-tested places.”
