CITY OF ELK GROVE
consulting with city staff, CNU proposed a
development plan with a 250-bed teach-

– Darrell Doan, economic development director, Elk Grove
proposed by CNU would include a Level II
trauma center in a city that does not have
a hospital.
“With a population expected to reach
over 200,000 people in the next decade,
we need good jobs and good health care,”
Ly said in his January address. “We are
fortunate to have businesses interested in
bringing us both.”
Doan says, “There are only 10 [Amer-
ican Medical Association]-accredited
teaching hospitals in all of California,” and
although the city has yet to complete its
economic impact report, he estimates the
hospital could employ up to 2,000 people,
amplifying the economic benefits city-
wide. “No other project can generate this
much economic activity and jobs,” he says.
