SUBSTITUTING IN
The substitution process applies only to South African runners and
opens on 1 April 2014. All applications must reach the CMA by no
later than 30 April 2014, and it is the responsibility of the substitute
athlete to find an athlete who intends to withdraw from the race.
An athlete who has already entered the Comrades and who
wishes to withdraw from the race must complete section A of the
Substitution Application Form and attach a certified copy of his/her
ID to the form, which must then be countersigned by his/her club
chairperson to verify the athlete’s information and the reason for
withdrawal from the race. The form and ID must then be given to
the substitute athlete.
The substitute runner must be a licensed member of a registered
club, and must have completed an officially recognised qualifying
race within the required qualifying period. He/she must complete
section B of the form and attach a certified copy of his/her ID with
the form, which must then be countersigned by the substitute’s
club chairperson to verify the athlete’s information and qualifying
time. Next the substitute must complete and attach the official
Comrades Entry Form and pay an administration fee of R110. Proof
of payment must be attached to the substitution application.
