Try to imagine these three individual people in your mind as vividly as possible. (pause for 1 to 2 minutes) Bring to mind five meaningful things that each of these people has in common with you. (This may be difficult at first for someone who is difficult or a stranger but try your best.) (pause for 1 to 2 minutes) Do any insights arise as you think about what you have in common with each of these people? (pause for 1 to 2 minutes) Thinking of the difficult person and stranger, do you think each has ever experienced disappointment, loneliness, or some other difficulties? (pause for 1 to 2 minutes) As you think about their challenges, do any insights arise? (pause for 1 to 2 minutes) Do each of these people want genuine happiness and to avoid suffering? (pause for 1 to 2 minutes) Reconsidering the meaningful similarities between you and each of these people, is there anything you want to add? (pause for 2 minutes) As we draw our meditation to a close, let's shift our attention to the sensations of the body. Pay attention to any pleasant or neutral sensations. (pause 1 minute) As we conclude, you may add a resolve statement or a dedicatory wish at this time, and then when you are ready, you can gently open your eyes. This concludes the practice.
