Facebook Takes First Steps Away From The Gender Binary!
Recently Facebook took the first steps away from the gender binary that the western world seems to like to obsess over. For those that are not sure what I'm talking about then I will explain. Facebook, the social media giant, gave users the chance to enter custom genders, this means anyone outside of the gender binary can now put their real gender on their profile! I am dual-gendered myself and I cannot begin to tell you how much better it feels to be able to put my real gender on my profile instead of "male" or "female".
For any of you wonderful readers that are in the UK and want to do this there is a bit of a trick to it for you. This only affects people in the UK so you American's don't need to worry at all! Right what you need to do is to go into your account settings and change the language to English (US) instead of English (UK) and then go into your profile and edit your personal information how you normally would. You can enter up to 5 genders so I have Genderqueer and Dual-Gender.

This is a real step in the right direction for anyone outside of the gender binary and I hope that we see other websites start to follow suite. The fact that Facebook which is such a big company, one that nearly everyone accesses and uses on a daily basis means that this will be noticed by a large number of people. I believe that this will be the start of people seeing that gender is not quite as simple as boy or girl. I hope people start asking about gender more, as well as educating themselves on the issue because then we could start to become less of a secret, feared and misunderstood community.
Although as the video to the right proves this will not be the case for everyone, Fox news (unsurprisingly) saw this as a silly joke and were very horrible and insulting to the trans and non gender binary community. I think Fox news needs to learn their facts and think about other people because from my view (England) all I can see are horrible, uneducated bigots. They use their religion and nation as an excuse to shamelessly hurt and harass anyone who does not fit their heterosexual Christian Male/Female cookie cutter mould.
