Research Design and Implementation-Conducting needs assessments and
determining program usage are major needs of many non-profit institutions to help
them direct resources. When conducting research that involves human subjects it is
prudent to obtain approval from an Institutional Review Board. Doing so will ensure
the research is ethical and allow you to share the results outside of your institution.
If you are connected to a College or University make use of your internal IRB
board. If you are serving with an organization that does not have an IRB, it is
possible to have your proposal reviewed by an IRB board for a fee. Depending on
the timeframe for completing your research you may also need to pay a renewal

Professional writing- Having skills in professional (e.g. writing, cover letters,
memos, and bibliographies) will help you support your worksite and gain valuable
experience. Ask you sight supervisor if your work site adheres to any particular
convention( APA, ASA, MLA etc.) if not pick one and stick to it in all your
