7 | ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING REPORT
Hi, my name is the after school
André,
I work at Community Options in
care program, and the preschool. I am the director,
and I’ve been working here for almost 8 years.
8 years ago, I was looking to get back into the field
and work with children. When I came by for my
interview, I saw this place, and I saw what they were
doing. On one side, helping the community, helping
the families, helping the children, letting everyone
help each other; and then on the other side, was
childcare. And I saw those two worlds together
and knew that it was exactly what I wanted to do.
Over the years, the organization has changed, but
I have realized that in taking care of the kids, that
I’m still helping the community. To educate a child,
to help a child, to tell a child that they’re doing
something really good –you’re building on your
own. You’re building on your community, and you’re
building on making sure that down the road you’re
going to be ok, yourself. That’s why I’m in this field,
and that’s why I think that I will stay in this field for a
very long time.
The biggest part of working for Community
Options, for me, is that I have the opportunity, every
single day, to work with some amazing children.
We have a lot of different cultures within our
organization, within our preschool, within our
after school care program, and I’ve learned
a lot from the children that I work with here.
My favourite part the job is spending time
with the kids –they’re very important to me.
Everything we do here is very, very important. People
on the outside see us as taking care of kids, and it
doesn’t seem like a big deal, but when you sit down
and dissect exactly what we’re doing here inside the
room, it’s a very, very important part of their day
and their lives. I’m proud to be part of it –big time.
