At the end of June, my former partner and best friend tragically passed away in our home. The sudden loss shattered my world and left me facing the unimaginable task of packing up the life we had built together and finding a new place to live. In the midst of this heartbreak, my company and Board of Directors immediately stepped forward with compassion. On the very day of his passing, they told me to focus on myself and assured me that everything at work was taken care of. I was able to take two full weeks off, not only to grieve, but also to secure a new home and begin piecing life back together.
What touched me most was how the community I serve rallied around me. Residents collectively donated over $ 1,000 to a fundraiser I organized for his family, and their children created handmade cards that brought light to some of my darkest days. In a time when I felt lost, the kindness and grace extended by my workplace and community gave me strength. Their support turned sorrow into a reminder of how deeply people can care. I will forever be grateful, and I will never forget this beautiful act of unity in grief.
