HIGH TUNNEL/HOOP HOUSE PHASE TWO OF THE AGRICULTURAL CENTER Professor Victor Khan, Plant Breeder with Tuskegee University has already begun phase two of the Agricultural Center which is the construction of a High Tunnel/Hoop House. These houses are designed to extend the growing season into the colder months of October through April by providing a greenhouse type structure where the plants are protected from the cool temperatures. High value crops such as squash, tomatoes, peppers and etc will be grown and sold during a time when locally grown fresh vegetables are not readily available. The dimensions of the house will be 28 feet wide, 80 feet long and 6 feet in height. The bedding plants will be planted directly into the soil. The diagram above shows the frame for the hoop house. This house was designed by V. A. and C. A. Khan, E. G. Rhoden and J. R. Bartlett-Tuskegee University School of Architecture. 19
