COMMUNITY EDUCATION SERVICES
Student contact and assignment boundaries
To maintain a safe and professional environment, please limit all student interactions to your official volunteer duties and avoid contacting students outside of these assignments. When working with students individually or in small groups, always work in a highly visible area. This ensures a transparent environment that protects both students and volunteers. Once your scheduled task is complete, please return to the office to sign out of your volunteer assignment. You must sign in as a visitor if you plan to stay on site.
Value of volunteers
Volunteers are a valuable asset to our schools. They dedicate many hours of their time to give teachers more time to teach and to provide opportunities for students to learn and enjoy school. Volunteers are a great gift to the district and to the students who attend its schools.
What not to do as a volunteer
Volunteers supplement and support education, but may not:
have access to student permanent record files. discuss concerns regarding staff or district leadership during your volunteer assignment. diagnose student needs. make final evaluations on student achievement. counsel students. discuss student information with anyone outside of the program. wander through the building or disrupt classes or other staff members outside of your volunteer assignment. If you have to speak with staff, please make an appointment. take photos or post on social media. allow cell phone use to become a distraction.
