SUPPORTING SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS

When schools and families work together they ensure that children are ready to engage in and benefit from learning experiences . Here are some strategies you can do at home to help strengthen your child ’ s school success !

Sleep
Research shows that when children get more sleep , they can focus better , tend to get sick less frequently and get along with others better . According to the American Academy of Pediatrics , preschool children , ages 3-5 need 10 to 13 hours of sleep a day . Here a few strategies to help your child get better sleep :
• Have a set bedtime routine . Over time , your child ’ s body will recognize the bedtime routine and will produce melatonin to help your child fall asleep faster .
• Avoid screen usage at least 30-60 minutes before bed . Lights from screens trick our brains to think it is daytime when it is not .
• During your bedtime routine , take time to connect with your child . This could be reading a book , rubbing their back , talking about the day or tomorrow ’ s plants , etc .
• If your child has an active IEP ( Individualized Education Plan ) or received special education services between the ages of three and five .
