PRESCHOOL YEARS CLASSES

ECFE classes during the preschool years strengthen parent-child interactions while promoting children ’ s social , emotional , and language development . Children build school readiness skills while parents discuss ways to help their children to become confident , independent learners .

NEW ! Preschoolers ( 3 to 4 years ) Starting preschool is such an exciting time ! This class provides the opportunity to practice getting ready for preschool by listening to stories , singing , painting , and making new friends . Parenting discussion will focus on developing social / emotional skills and more . Plus , you ’ ll also connect with other parents and caregivers going through similar experiences . Separating class – parents / caregivers spend half of the class time together with their child and half in parenting education .

Parents , Kids & Preschool ( 3 to 5 years ) This preschool class meets two days a week - the first day , parents and children attend together ; the second day is for children only . Parent attendance is expected for the child to participate in the child-only day . Activities are aligned with the Anoka-Hennepin Schools kindergarten curriculum to enhance the development of social skills , math , literacy , music , and science . Parenting topics include getting ready for kindergarten , setting limits , bedtime , and more . Separating class on parent / child day – parents / caregivers spend half of the class time together with their child and half in parenting education .
Note : At the Sorteberg ECC , weather permitting , a portion of the class will be held in the outdoor classroom both on the parent / child day and the child-only day . Plan accordingly and dress for the weather .

It ’ s a fun and easy way to spark discussions about all things parenting and to build relationships with other parents or caregivers . Grab your lunch and join other parents / caregivers for an online book study facilitated by an ECFE Parenting Educator . Purchasing the book is not necessary for class participation but will aid in your learning .
This session ’ s book – “ The Power of Showing Up ”. In an age of scheduling demands and digital distractions , showing up for your child might sound like a tall order . But authors Daniel Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson explain , it doesn ’ t take a lot of time , energy , or money . Instead , showing up means offering a quality of presence . Every child needs to feel the 4 S ’ s : safe , seen , soothed , and secure .
This class is presented in an online format ; information on how to join the class will be emailed by the teacher one week before class starts .
