Mission Statement
Groundwork Rhode Island builds healthier , more resilient and more equitable urban communities in Rhode Island by improving the physical environment and creating economic opportunities for local residents through job training , employment and social venture programs .
background Groundwork RI has been operating since 1982 , first as Keep Providence Beautiful , then joining the Groundwork USA network in 1999 . We work statewide , but primarily in the communities of Providence , Pawtucket and Central Falls .
Brag lines In 2024 , Groundwork RI ’ s GroundCorp landscape team planted over 600 trees in eight RI communities . Our Harvest Cycle Compost program diverted 320,000 pounds of food waste from the landfill . We provided green industry job training for over thirty adults and young adults and employed twenty-five high schoolers through our youth Green Team .
Pay it forward Donating to Groundwork Rhode Island improves the quality of life across Rhode Island ’ s urban communities , adding green space , cooling our cities , improving air and water quality and replenishing our soil , while opening up job opportunities for adults who face barriers to employment and young people .
