Background In the 1980s , Pat Pezzelli ( father of Susan Whipple , PHO ’ s current director ) answered an ad in the Providence Visitor to join a missionary trip to Marigot , Haiti , with Reverand Francis Giudice , rector of SS Peter and Paul Cathedral . Upon returning , they fundraised to open an orphanage for 50 children . Fast forward 35 years , St . Dominique School now feeds and educates over 700 children each day from pre-K to high school . |
BRAG LINES Known as “ the little organization that does big things for Haiti ’ s children ,” we are dedicated volunteers with no office and few expenses ensuring that 90 % of every donated dollar reaches our school . Milestones include :
• Educated 14,000 + children since PHO founding
• Provided tuition for 700 + children each year
• Provided 16,000 + free daily meals
• 92.3 % of high school class graduated vs . 12.5 % national average !
• Built soccer field , computer lab , library
• Installed water purification system for entire community

Pay It Forward We managed to survive earthquakes , famine , drought , and political unrest with the guidance of a succession of priests . Father Giudice , Father Robert Perron and Father Gregoire , along with their loyal supporters , allowed the school to sustain and grow . Each founding pastor has passed resulting in the loss of many of their followers . Our challenge is acquiring new friends who can help us continue our mission and ensure that no child is ever turned away . |
