Background Founder Joseph Brown ( 1924-2014 ) established Meals on Wheels of RI in February 1969 . In its inaugural year , the organization served seventeen Providence seniors through a single delivery route with nutritious meals , safety assurances and social visits to help them maintain independence . In summer 2022 , we delivered our 20-millionth home-delivered meal . In 2023 , we are delivering on our mission across eighty-one daily delivery routes , serving more than 3,300 individuals annually who are at risk of food insecurity and social isolation . |
BRAG LINES MOWRI 2025 , our strategic plan , centers on innovation and capacity building to sustain and grow our signature programs and increase our statewide impact .
In spring 2023 , we began serving homebound seniors on Block Island for the first time in our organization ’ s history .
Our Capital City Café Program expanded in 2023 to include monthly cafés for the older adult LGBTQ , Southeast Asian and Latinx communities .
Our partnership with Women & Infants Hospital & Point 32 Health is serving pregnant and postpartum women .

Pay it Forward Our organization serves Rhode Island residents at risk of food insecurity and social isolation statewide , including more than 3,000 homebound older adults , and we are working to meet steadily increasing needs for our programs . As we also work to increase our statewide impact and extend our model to additional at-risk populations , the support of our partners and donors will be more critical than ever . |
