As a long-time member of CCIM Institute, I’m so grateful for this amazing global community the institute has nurtured for more than a half-century and for the opportunity to serve as your president this past year. I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved as an organization and through our official publication, Commercial Investment Real Estate. When you look at the commercial real estate industry, ‘tis the season for multi- family year-round. According to Freddie Mac, multifamily origination volume is projected to reach $317 billion this year, up 3.9 percent from 2018, and this issue’s cover story takes a deep dive into the enduring demand for this property type. Other features in this edition speak to related members of the commercial real estate family, including the often-ignored topic of succession planning, how REITs are leveraging blockchain, self-storage trends, and a spotlight on the year’s biggest deals and deal-makers, to name a few. I hope that you enjoy and share this issue, the last of 2019. In 2020, keep an eye out for some exciting changes to CIRE as it moves to a quarterly publication. The magazine will have a fresh, modern look with a few new surprises inside, and we’ll be add- ing a monthly podcast to the suite of CIRE offerings. There’s so much to look forward to in the new year.
