From Nursing to Production

Ben-Christopher David, a former nursing student who transferred into the Media Studies program, has had some stellar entertainment internships, including a plum gig with Bravo On-Air Promotions, an NBC Universal Network.

At Bravo, David worked closely with Elizabeth Massip, the key writer, producer and editor for the popular network. He also worked with Bravo stars, like Kathy Griffin, as well as with the casts of Bravo’s top-rated shows, including Vanderpump Rules, Shahs of Sunset, L.A. Shrinks, Start Ups, Eat Drink Love, and Dukes of Melrose.

No stranger to video production, David has several years of experience working as a freelance videographer and wedding cinematographer. But it wasn’t until he changed his major to Media Studies with an emphasis in Film and Television production that doors started to open for him. “This school has helped me a lot with networking,” David notes. “If it wasn’t for the film club, I wouldn’t have gotten my internships.”

David originally chose nursing as a way to please his family, but now realizes that his passion for filmmaking and television was just too strong.

“Someday, my kids are going to sit down and watch my videos,” David muses. “I’m creating something that could have meaning for generations to come, and that’s important. I want to leave a visual legacy for my children and grandchildren.”

David is scheduled to graduate Fall 2013. During his academic career, he has had the opportunity to network with many professionals in the entertainment and production fields.

He plans on contacting them after graduation. However, before he graduates, David has one more internship to complete: working for Conan O’Brien.
