The Torres Twins

Kristina and Monique Torres are identical twins with identical aspirations: to have their own sports talk show on ESPN Radio. And they may just be well on their way to accomplishing their goal.
This past year, the Torres twins landed their own sports radio talk show on Coyote Radio and garnered rave reviews. Their command of stats and figures, and their deep knowledge and passion for everything sports, thoroughly entertained the listening audience.
“I’m a huge fan of the twins,” says Alex Perez, a Communication Studies student. “From the moment they walked on this campus they knew what they wanted to do—and they have never wavered in their goal of becoming women sportscasters.”
The sisters developed a love for sports from their dad. “I can remember watching basketball with my dad as a little girl and knowing it was something I would be interested in for years to come,” reminisces Kristina.
The twins also have been avid cheerleaders since high school. Up until their second year at Cal State, the sisters were Coyote Cheerleaders, present at every athletic event on campus.
Monique realizes that it will not be easy breaking into the male-dominated world of sports talk radio, but she is undaunted by the difficulty that lies ahead. “Sometimes, not even my professors and classmates take me seriously when I say I want to be a world class sports talk show host,” she notes.
“We know it’s difficult to aspire to be in sports media with a lack of women role models working successfully in the field,” adds Kristina, “but it’s what we love and we’re going for it.”
Always positive and upbeat, their enthusiasm for sports is infectious. While there may not be a lot of women role models on sports talk shows at the moment, there is no doubt that the Torres twins will become role models for young girls in the future.
After graduation, the twins plan to have their own sports podcast to gain more experience and to create a bigger fan base.
