Rookie defensive end Josh Allen has a case for
defensive rookie of the year, with 40 tackles,
10.0 sacks, 11 tackles for loss and 21 quarterback hits.
San Francisco 49ers rookie defensive end Nick Bosa
has the most similar numbers: 41 tackles, 9.0 sacks, 16
tackles for loss, 22 quarterback hits, one interception
and two fumble recoveries. A big statistical game from
Allen could help his cause.
Twelfth-year defensive lineman Calais Campbell is
headed to the Pro Bowl for the fi fth time in his career.
After last week’s game, he did not offer any
excuses of a busy week for the loss.
“You have to handle whatever circumstances come,”
Campbell said. “I’m not going to use it as an excuse. We
have to develop our culture where nothing gets out but
playing good football. You have to fi nd a way to prepare
no matter what happens… still fi nd a way to accomplish
your goals and play within the scheme and fi nd a way to
win ball games.”
With one game remaining, Campbell, the veteran player
on the roster, knows that this team is still trying to win.
“One thing I do know is that this team fi ghts, and we
have a lot of heart. We’re young and guys are learning.
The biggest thing is, how do we respond? You have to
get the job done and we didn’t get it done (last week).
We have to come back next week and fi nish the season
with a win.”
