Even with only 91 yards on the ground in last week’ s loss, the Jaguars still rank No. 1 in the NFL in rushing offense.
Speaking of injuries, the wide receiver corps has been depleted as of late. Allen Robinson has been out since Week 1 with a knee injury, and Allen Hurns continues to recover from an ankle injury. Fourth-year receiver Marqise Lee had one catch for 13 yards last week but also a key drop on a late second-down play with seconds to play to kill the clock. Undrafted rookie Keelan Cole continues to develop in his first professional season; he was targeted seven times with two catches against the Cardinals.
So far, Dede Westbrook has proven that he could be a difference-maker down the stretch. After posting three catches for 35 yards in his NFL debut against the Cleveland Browns in Week 11, Westbrook was targeted a teamhigh 10 times last week with six catches for 41 yards.
In general, Jaguars pass catchers need to deliver more catches in key moments. Last week, wide receivers and tight ends were targeted 23 times and made only 11 receptions in the loss.
In the Week 7 game against the Colts, running back T. J. Yeldon ran for 122 yards and a touchdown on nine carries while Chris Ivory ran 17 times for 47 yards and a score. Rookie running back Leonard Fournette missed the game battling an ankle injury.
Blake Bortles threw for 330 yards on 18-of- 26 passing with a touchdown and a 124.7 rating. A total of 101 yards went to wide receiver Allen Hurns on five catches. Tight end Marcedes Lewis hauled in the touchdown, one of his four catches.
Today, the Jaguars offense faces a Colts defense that ranks 29th overall, including 30th against the pass and 13th against the run.
