MSP: What about Chalewote? GSM: I’m performing there. I like the festival. I think I like it because the main organizer is a Ga himself and its hosted on a Ga land. It’s a plus for us. You see when it comes to entertainment in Ghana, culturally I think that Ga people do well to project their identity and I feel that’s what Chalewote does too. When you come to the festival it’s not just the art displayed you see, right? You experience the people there and their lifestyle. It’s almost as if they open the doors to their homes for people to come and tour. Chalewote, has put our people and the country on the map and quite frankly, it has opened the way for these other festivals and raves that have been popping up lately. I salute the team and brains behind it. MSP: You recently welcomed your baby girl. Do you want to touch on that? GSM: Hahaha…no, not at all. One thing I have vowed not to do is involve my family and kids in all that I do. I like to keep the two worlds separate and it’s working for me. I don’t want the spot light on them but if they happen to want it when they grow up then that’s their decision but for now I don’t want any part of them in the media. MSP: What’s lacking in the music industry? GSM: A lot. We’re lacking support from government and the fans. MSP: What about the fans, what are they not doing right? GSM: Ghanaian music fans especially my fans have been fantastic however there’s more they can do. Being a fan goes beyond you sharing posts and jamming to my music. What about purchasing my music when I release them? Our existence as music artistes depends on the fans. If they’re not buying our songs, we cannot keep producing and getting better. We’re always being compared to our Nigerian brothers but honestly they seem to be ahead of us because they have the right investments from their fans and individuals but when don’t have that here in Ghana…we have great talents but the 60 | Colossium .
