REVIEW It’s a very intense and e B OYS NO DEY CRY, a short film directed by Albert Donkor traces the life a young man who thinks death can make his sufferings end. This short film was premiered on the 23rd of August 2019 draws attention on the average unemployed youth struggling to make it in life. The rest of the film brings to light the struggling life the main character Joojo. Joojo reveals how hard life is since he is unemployed and the reaction he gets from his family. He goes to see a therapist who asks him various questions about former’s thoughts on suicide which causes him to open up more to his therapist. Below are secnes from the film. September 2019 In the course of the film, pressures on his life are revealed and his constant smoking which has become his way of releasing stress. Joojo refuses to cry because he deems it not worthy for a man to cry thus, to him crying as a man, shows a sign of weakness – a shared social ideology. Amongst the factors that contribute to his mounting pressure and desire to die, are his family expectations, unemployment and constant visits to prophets for answers. The main character embodied the thoughts and experiences of young people in our society. The film focuses on issues of depression and suicidal thoughts.
