Let’s talk about South African music, what form/s of music exists in South Africa? What are your expectations each time you hit the studio? TOYA: There are many genres growing at the moment which is hella exciting. People like Maskandi, Amapiano, Afrorave, Hip Hop, Ggom, Afrikaans, House, Dubstep House. TOYA: No expectations just following my feelings Where does your music fit in South African music? Are you an art fan? TOYA: My music is a blend of electronic and Zulu or English at times -… and people dig it, that’s how it fits in lol TOYA: Yes, I always bring local illustrators on board when creating my single covers like what I did for Gqoma. I worked with @ GRIMMZSA and for my new single Qhawe I worked with @BrokenAfrikaans What is your greatest achievement so far? TOYA: Staying alive …lol but seriously surviving the industry and launching my recorded label, creating my own genres Afrorave and JEHP for an African kid..It’s dope! Also I’m getting back into my fashion production. How about disappointments? TOYA: I have been let down so many times - but each time I have had to remember that success is 99% failure. What do you do when not working? TOYA: I read a book or just float in the pool rose if I’m close to the coast... Do you believe in love at first sight?
