Colossium: How did it all start?
Basstrvpz: We started back into 2015. We were
two different groups under the same record
called Hyper Space who merged about 2 years
ago to form the brand Basstrvpz. From then we
have grown from a two member to four.
CLS: Why the name Basstrvpz?
BST: We used to make bass trap music so the
name ‘Basstrvpz’ originally came about from
our experiments with Bass traps in our studio at
Korle Bu. Bass traps are devices that are placed
in the corners of studios to capture bass and keep
a flat reference audio. It’s a name we thought is
awesome because it is descriptive of the kind of
music we do – capturing people’s attention with
our music.
CLS: How do you define Basstrvpz?
BST: We are an Electronic Dance Music (EDM)
group in Ghana. The Basstrvpz project is some-
thing we came up to provide music lovers an
alternative to what is out there now. There are
people out there who like the kind of music that
we do; so what we are trying to do is to create a
niche for ourselves in the music industry. We
will have to add that we are four different pro-
ducers who have come together to push one
agenda which is to create a market with literally
doesn’t exist.
CLS: Why do you cover yours faces?
BST: Hahaha its nothing but a branding stunts.
We’ve actually been to events where the audi-
ence tries to take off our masks to see who we
are.
CLS: What inspires you guys to do EDM espe-
cially in a place like Ghana?
BST: You know, a genre like Afrobeat is not
making use of the whole frequency spectrum
and that is what we are trying to do. Producers
in Ghana do not touch the spectrums we do. We
desiring to go beyond the spectrum that Afrobe-
at producers use.
CLS: Explain what this ‘Frequency Spectrum’ is.
BST: There different frequency spectrum and as
human beings we have the ability to hear
