Colossium: How did it all start? Basstrvpz: We started back into 2015. We were two different groups under the same record called Hyper Space who merged about 2 years ago to form the brand Basstrvpz. From then we have grown from a two member to four. CLS: Why the name Basstrvpz? BST: We used to make bass trap music so the name ‘Basstrvpz’ originally came about from our experiments with Bass traps in our studio at Korle Bu. Bass traps are devices that are placed in the corners of studios to capture bass and keep a flat reference audio. It’s a name we thought is awesome because it is descriptive of the kind of music we do – capturing people’s attention with our music. CLS: How do you define Basstrvpz? BST: We are an Electronic Dance Music (EDM) group in Ghana. The Basstrvpz project is some- thing we came up to provide music lovers an alternative to what is out there now. There are people out there who like the kind of music that we do; so what we are trying to do is to create a niche for ourselves in the music industry. We will have to add that we are four different pro- ducers who have come together to push one agenda which is to create a market with literally doesn’t exist. CLS: Why do you cover yours faces? BST: Hahaha its nothing but a branding stunts. We’ve actually been to events where the audi- ence tries to take off our masks to see who we are. CLS: What inspires you guys to do EDM espe- cially in a place like Ghana? BST: You know, a genre like Afrobeat is not making use of the whole frequency spectrum and that is what we are trying to do. Producers in Ghana do not touch the spectrums we do. We desiring to go beyond the spectrum that Afrobe- at producers use. CLS: Explain what this ‘Frequency Spectrum’ is.
