CLS: What about airplays?
FLS: With regards to airplays, it fluctuates – I
can’t tell why.
CLS: Why is that? Is it because they
don’t what to pay royalties?
FLS: I can’t be definite on this issue. It’s seems
to be a lot of reasons. One thing I have noticed
is that people attach emotions to almost
everything here in Ghana. It’s like the more
they know you the more they wouldn’t want
to play your song because they perhaps called
you a few times and they couldn’t reach you.
Thus they will rather play songs by artistes
from maybe Tanzania than yours. They don’t
want music artistes flexing them after
promoting them to reach their stardom.
CLS: Talk about flexing, it is pretty
common with Ghanaian celebrities
especially in the music industry. I have
had my fair share of this from artistes.
FLS: That’s unfortunate; however most of
these guys have been bruised in the past on
their way to the top. Sometimes our words are
twisted after interviews such as this. You also
have situations where writers or bloggers
focus much on your negative sides of the
stories which shouldn’t be like that. So it’s
understandable from that angle when artistes
want to shun away from certain people and
places.
CLS: The VGMA is coming up. Have you
filed your nomination yet?
FLS: Yes, I have
CLS: Who do you think will be crowned
as the Artiste of the Year, maybe apart
from yourself?
FLS: I’m not aiming for that. This year it
won’t be easy. A couple of months ago, I will
easily nominate Kuami Eugene. But now, a
number of artistes have risen through the
ranks - Stonebwoy, King Promise and Kwesi
Arthur. If I’m to choose, I will give it to Kwesi
Arthur.
CLS: How about M.anifest?
FLS: I will compare M.anifest to myself. He
