She was recognized at a luncheon at the Tower Club in Springfield. Her story goes as follows: In 1989, a timid and shy, 23 yearold came through the front doors of Colonial Springs’ to work as a CNA. After 25 years of service, she has grown to be a team leader. She started out as a quiet “follower” type of person who rarely spoke to anyone but her partner. Today, she is a woman in charge. She is vibrant and outgoing, taking control of situations no matter how big or small. “Whatever it takes.” is Alff’s daily motto. The ladies and gentlemen who she cares for are her first priority. To everyone around her, she is know for her patience and compassion. She will socialize with a resident who is down and stay with them until they cheer up. She is always willing to stay late and help her coworkers, because to her, the residents come first. She receives numerous compliments from families and she remains humble. At the end of a long and tiring day, she will walk home and prepare herself for the next day, when she will open the door with a cheery smile on her face. When asked about retiring, Sam said, “I am never going to retire. I plan on being here another 25 years. This is my life and I love it.” “We are proud to have Sam as part of our Colonial Springs Healthcare Center team. She is a very kind and compassionate person. There is no one else in this world quite like her,” explains Theresa Dill, CSHCC administrator. “I have seen many certified nurses aides over the years, but no one goes above and beyond like Sam.” Thank you Sam for your dedication to Colonial Springs Healthcare Center’s employees and residents.
