Willa was the baby of the family, having one brother, George and a sister, Laura. When Willa was in the elementary school, her family moved to Independence. She graduated from North East High School in 1953. On Oct. 6 of that same year, she married the love of her life, Earl Kueck, whom she dated through high school and met through her brother. Willa worked as a secretary throughout her working life. She worked at several banks, but most of her time was spent at Sheffield Steel in Kansas City. This was the perfect job, be- cause Earl worked here as well. Willa has one son, Billy, who resides in Buffalo with his wife, Sandy, and she has two wonder- ful grandchildren, Gavin and Alex. When Willa wasn’t working, her and Earl loved to go fishing. “One time while we were out on the lake, I threw out my line and I caught the seat of Earl’s pants. We laughed so hard. He never let that down,” said Willa. “He was quite a jewel and we enjoyed each other’s company. I really miss him.” Earl passed away in 1969 from cancer. It was then that Willa moved to Buffalo to be closer to her parents. She opened up a flower shop on the square called, Billies, and sold a variety of sprays and decorative designs. Willa became a part of the Colonial Springs family last November. She enjoys attending church activities, musical events, exercise class and loves going on outings. She is a joy to be around.
