Bennie was born on Sept. 15, 1927,
to Howard and Martha Fullington in
Rayborn, Mo. He was one of five sons.
He grew up in Green Mountain, Mo.,
and graduated from Green Mountain
High School. He went to the West
Plains Police Academy and was Chief
of Police at Mountain Grove for 20
years.
One night, he decided to go to a
dance at the Right Spot. Here he met,
danced and fell in love with Marie
Riley. They were married in September
1955, and were married for 57 years.
“She was and still is the most wonderful woman in my life. I truly miss her,
but I know I will see her again,” says
Bennie.
The Fullington’s had one son,
Howard, who passed away, and one
daughter, Linda Kelley, who resides in
Buffalo. Bennie has one grandson,
Benje, who lives in Mt. Grove.
After Bennie retired from police
work, he began working a Brown Shoe.
He was a toe laster. He retired after 30
years of service.
“When I was young, I always carried
boxing gloves with me every where I
went. I never turned down a chance to
box with a contender. My last match
was with Leslie Lathom. We both
ended up with two black eyes and my
wife got really mad. She said my boxing
days were over and threw my glove in
the wood stove,” says Bennie.
After Bennie and Marie retired they
enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
“One time we caught our limit and the
game warden came to our campsite
and counted our fish. He said we were
over our limit and asked me who
caught all of those fish. I told him everyone here at the campsite. So in order
to stay out of trouble, we had a huge
fish fry for everyone. The next day, we
caught another cooler full and went
home,” laughs Bennie. “We had so
much fun and had lots of fish fries and
barbeques at our house.”
Bennie moved to Colonial Springs in
2013 from Cabool Nursing Home so he
could be closer to Linda. He enjoys socializing with the other guys, coming to
the men’s groups, attending parties
and of course going fishing.
Thank you Bennie for letting us
know more about you.
