Show Your Patriotism Week
The first week of July is the most patriotic week in America. It is a
time when we honor our country and its forefathers. We are so
blessed to live in the U.S., so we will be showing everyone how
proud we are to live in America by dressing, decorating and
displaying our pride for America. Each day we will conduct a
special activity to reflect on our past, present and future.
On July Fourth, we will have an Americana Luncheon consisting of
traditional picnic items. Who knows, we might even throw in a
watermelon or two.
Come on out and play July Fourth bingo and eat some homemade
ice cream at 2 p.m., Friday, July 3. What a great way to cool
off with friends.
I Scream for Ice Cream
July is National Ice Cream
Month and it was established by
President Ronald Reagan in
1984.
So you will see ice cream on
our calendar several times this
month, sometimes maybe twice
a week. We are going to try all
different kinds of ways to make
ice cream, such as floats, sundaes,
banana splits, sandwiches,
cones, etc.
Have you ever made snow ice
cream during the winter? Well,
we can’t make that but we will
surely reminisce about it.
We will also be discussing
many facts about ice cream,
such as, one scoop of ice cream
needs about 50 licks to finish.
And to make one gallon of ice
cream it takes 12 pounds of
milk. Needless to say, a cow can
produce enough milk to make
9,000 gallons of ice cream in its
lifetime.
Interesting, huh? Watch the
calendar for all of our ice cream
festivities. I wonder how many
different kinds of ice cream
there are in the world?
We celebrated National Donut Day
last month by making homemade
donuts. Above Nellie cuts out the
center of the dough.

to drop their egg in both salt and
regular water. Which one will float?
What do you think?

They had a lot of fun exercising without
even knowing they were exercising.
July is a “Berry” Good
Month
Berries and ice cream go well
together, don’t they? So let’s celebrate
them the same month.
What is your favorite berry?
Have you ever picked strawberries
or blackberries? I bet many of
you have. When you went picking,
did you eat more than you put in
the basket?
Well, we will be answering
many of these questions as well
as making some delicious treats
with different types of berries,
such as strawberry pie, blackberry
cobbler, and also freezer jam.
We will reminisce about picking
berries, play some BERRY bingo,
make a strawberry sachet,
play a few tart games, and even
weave the famous singer Chuck
Berry into our programming.
It should be a lot of fun this
month between eating ice cream
and eating berries. We will probably
come out a lot heavier.
