Transition Council welcomes three RVTs
RVTs Kristi Clarida , Lisa Langton , and Phil Nichols join Transition Council , following their appointments by the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians ( OAVT ).
The Transition Council is getting to work to support the College ’ s evolution into the College of Veterinary Professionals of Ontario ( CVPO ).
As set out in the Veterinary Professionals Act , the Transition Council includes all members of the CVO Legacy Council , and three appointees from the OAVT .
The Veterinary Professionals Act , approved in the Ontario legislature in June , provides the Transition Council with the ability to determine regulations , and by-laws that will come into effect with the establishment of the CVPO . The new governing legislation licenses veterinary technicians , and supports team-based care in the delivery of safe , quality veterinary medicine .
The Veterinary Professionals Act brings a modern approach to the regulation of veterinary medicine .
The new legislation :
• recognizes the important
Registered Veterinary Technicians Lisa Langton , Phil Nichols , & Kristi Clarida , serve on the Transition Council .
and differing roles served by veterinarians and veterinary technicians ;
• enhances governance ;
• develops a formal quality assurance program ;
• streamlines the complaints and resolutions process ; and
• enables non-veterinarians to provide care to animals using lower-risk forms of treatment .

Council meetings
College Council members were busy in September with meetings of the Transition Council and the Legacy Council . The Transition Council will be working on regulations , by-laws and standards for the College of Veterinary Professionals of Ontario . The Legacy Council continues work under the Veterinarians Act .
