From the Chair Happy Holidays ... Be on the Lookout for Hidden Gifts !
Charles A . Beckham , Jr ., Haynes and Boone , LLP Chair , American College of Bankruptcy
Happy Holidays ! I hope you are having a wonderful holiday season but , . . . be careful about what you agree to do at that Holiday Party . It could bring you some Hidden Gifts !
To say the College had an active Fall would be an understatement . From the mid-year meetings in Seattle in September , to outstanding educational programs in Cleveland , Washington , D . C . and New York in October and November , the College and its Fellows were busy . I know because I followed the College road show to Seattle , Cleveland , Washington , D . C . and New York . I could not be prouder of the College and the solid work our Fellows are doing to support our mission to enhance professionalism , scholarship and service in bankruptcy and insolvency law .
In Cleveland I saw our General Counsel , Stephen Lerner host an educational program honoring past College Chair Christopher Meyer . The program included a debate between Ralph Brubaker , the James Sprayregen Professor of Law at University of Illinois School of Law , and Jamie Sprayregen regarding third party releases post-Purdue . The debate was moderated ( refereed ) by Judge Jeffrey Deller from Pittsburgh . It was a fiery discussion or as some in the audience called it , La Lucha Libre !
In Washington , D . C . I attended the Howard DREAMS program at Howard University School of Law . The program was organized by the American College of Bankruptcy and the American Bankruptcy Institute and was led by College Fellows Lynn Tavener and Paula Beran . The program was targeted at encouraging diverse law students to consider a career in bankruptcy and insolvency law .
In New York I attended the program on Interrupting Gender Bias in the Restructuring Industry focused on examining gender equality in the bankruptcy and insolvency profession .
