DRTCS have played host to our very first exchange student Tristan Hinnah. He has spent the last 6 weeks with our Refrigeration department. Tristan is currently studying Mechanical & Electrical Engineering at Vision West Nottinghamshire College, before he returns to Germany to continue his studies.
When I asked Tristan what he was hoping to get out of his visit to us, he replied: “I want to improve my English skills and see how a company operates in a different country to my own. I also want to try the English food.”
I then asked him about his experience here and whether it had lived up to his expectations, he replied to this by saying: “It has been very interesting, I have learnt how to use the skills I have in different applications so this has broadened my knowledge. One of the main highlights was the one to one training I received from Mike Newton which was of great benefit to me.”
His visit to DRTCS was set up by Danny Poismans, who while visiting Vision West Notts looking for apprentices, asked about the opportunity of having an exchange student. Danny said: “We have had lots of apprentices over the last 10/15 years and feel we have been successful in developing them. This seemed like a good chance to measure ourselves as a business against operations in other countries. Not only will Tristan benefit from this experience, he will also be able to give us feedback on our practices leading to improvements on our end, it’s a win win situation for us as a company.”
