The second annual GCCA African Cold Chain Conference was held on 2-4 August in Cape Town . GCCA Africa director Lizelle van der Berg opened the day .

Reinforcing the international nature of the event , Van der Berg announced the presence of more than 100 attendees from different countries , including Nigeria , Kenya , Mozambique , Namibia and South Africa ; while attendees outside of Africa came from Canada , the US and Lebanon .

The conference thereafter proceeded with an overview by Paul Gibbons in his role as chairman of the GCCA African Strategic Advisory Council . He announced the launch of an information video that is funded and supported by members . “ We will use this video for social media marketing and advocacy with the government to seek relief from load shedding and other issues . Please watch this video and share it with your networks . Together , we can grow and strengthen our cold chain industry in Africa .”
Adam Thocher , senior vice-president of Global Programs and Insights presented on ‘ international cold chain challenges and trends ,’ followed by a panel discussion on ‘ cold chain development in Africa ,’ moderated by Global Cold Chain chairman Greg Laurin , with panellists Newton Matope , president of Kenya ’ s Big Cold ; Chris Creed , MD of Vector Logistics and Owusu Akoto , CEO of FreezeLink .
Chris Hattingh , head of policy analysis at CRA , unpacked the Africa Continental Free Trade Area and how to navigate the policy risks that could undermine the very nature of the agreement itself .
Energy Partners Refrigeration general manager , Dawie Kriel , presented a case study looking at the effectiveness of solar
