EVENTS AND EXHIBITIONS INCORPORATING COLD CHAIN Uni-Cape started in 1985 and it has been a strong supporter of the Cape Industries Showcase since its inception in 1989 by exhibiting every year. The company offers the Dynaco range of high-speed doors food processing. It also stocks products from Petro-Canada, as well as Everest (from Holland) lubricants for synthetic refrigerants. It currently has 14 staff members in three major cities of South Africa. from Belgium that is insulated for cold storage. It also imports dock levellers from the US to meet the demand for a higher quality product with superior strength. Its truck cranes come from Austria and it imports stationary cranes for marine applications. These products attracted a great deal of interest at the show. David Eisenhut, director global sales support for SSI Schaefer (on left), made his first visit to South Africa to meet visitors to the show. He is based in Austria. With him is Robert Kershaw, business development manager, based in Johannesburg. Linda Olsen-Lötter was at the stand to engage with visitors about the product ranges. Exhibited was this dock leveller with a control box for operation, Iifted by airbags (not hydraulic). The control box prevents it from being lifted when the vehicle is not in position. Fleet & Time Control has specific products that are well suited for the refrigerated transport market. One of the most popular products in its range is the cameras for observing a driver’s behaviour in the cab as well as the vehicle surroundings, for instance, if someone is trying to hijack the vehicle. It also has a full range of temperature data loggers for monitoring temperatures at 10-minute intervals, with software that provides a permanent record and could be read in real time. He commented that the automation of storage systems could be gradually developed in stages, for instance, semi mobile, which offers high density of product followed by automatic storage and automatic retrieving. As a start, rails can be fitted in the floor of new stores and mobile racking added later. Coolmac and Refrigeration Solutions have formed a new partnership. Coolmac boasts many years of experience in the agricultural sector, while Refrigeration Solutions is strong in the commercial/ supermarket sector. Coolmac has an extensive presence throughout the country, including Johannesburg, Worcester, Groblersdal, Nelspruit and Mozambique. Refrigeration Solutions builds packaged units in its Parow plant, predominately for the supermarket sector. In the agricultural sector, it is difficult to offer packages, as each client has very specific requirements. Coolmac has been involved with agricultural project such as de-greening in Citrusdal (serviced from Worcester), Rhodes Fruit Farm in Franschhoek, and Fruit Spot for Walmart. The refrigerants mostly used in the installations of both Coolmac and Refrigeration Solutions are R404A, R407F and R134a.
