INCORPORATING COLD CHAIN
Life size CO 2 training plant
under construction
A
By John Ackermann
life size CO 2 training plant is
under construction at the OTTC
training centre in Springs. All the
components and equipment have been
generously donated by suppliers and
much of the required labour for assembly
has been done by German contacts.
The cascade plant has R134a for the
high stage condensing and can operate as
sub-critical or trans-critical and will be piped
to a small cold room and supermarket
vending cabinets. The plant will be used to
train students in the design, installation and
operation of CO 2 systems and the different
options in capacity control.
Christian Richter (the winner of the
German 2009 Skills competition and in
third place of the 2011 Euroskills) and his
father, Wolfgang, both of contractors
Dreshner Kuhlanlagenbau in Germany,
recently spent three weeks at OTTC
doing additional work on the installation
of the CO 2 training plant.
The CO 2 plant is expected to be
completed in June 2017. The new CO 2
training plant will further expand the
training courses offered at the OTTC
college, who also have a life size
ammonia training plant, probably the
only in South Africa. CLA
