On 20 December 2022 GCCA announced Larna Jodamus , Compliance Manager of CCS Logistics as the recipient of the Global NextGen Award . The Global NextGen Award recognises outstanding young professionals in the world ’ s cold chain industry . “ I am impressed and inspired by the dedication of the emerging leaders within the cold chain ,” says Matthew Ott , president and CEO of GCCA .
“ Congratulations to Larna on this recognition in what was one of our strongest Global NextGen competitions to date .” Among other eligibility requirements for the award , finalists must demonstrate excellence in their work ; the potential to excel further in many facets within the industry ; and insight into their organisations ’ strategic values , direction , policies , and ways of working . “ The Global NextGen Award Competition showcases the talent of our industry ’ s rising stars on a global stage ," said Daniel Kaplan , Chairman of the Global Cold Chain Foundation ( GCCF ). “ All of our nominees demonstrated dedication and talent by playing a role in advancing the global temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics industry .” Candidates for the 2022 GCCA Global NextGen Award were nominated by national refrigerated warehousing organisations to compete virtually for the global award . As part of the selection process , each nominee was interviewed and judged by a panel of industry leaders from around the world . Candidates were evaluated on their knowledge level of the industry , track record of excellence , communication skills and leadership skills . In addition , each candidate delivered a five-minute presentation to the panel of judges virtually . I met up with Larna Jodamus to congratulate her and ask her a few questions about the experience .
Can you tell me about your journey since winning the Africa Future Leader Award and how this prepared you for competing in the Global NEXTGEN Award ? Winning the African Future Leader Award has definitely been a confidence booster . It gave me a platform to share my passion for food safety & compliance and to promote the purpose and importance of temperaturecontrolled warehousing in the supply chain . The way I think about the temperaturecontrolled logistics industry has evolved

since preparing for the Nextgen competition . I ’ ve spent a lot more time listening to the views of my peers on industry challenges and sharing my view and thoughts in return . This would often give rise to new ideas or identification of improvement opportunities in the organisation or broader industry .
What was the experience like ? This experience has really taken me out of my comfort zone , sharing my views with industry leaders from around the world while competing against the regional winners ( all of whom have accomplished great things in their careers ) was nerve wrecking but also very exciting . I felt honoured to be a participant and even more so to be announced the winner .
What does this win mean for you ? There are a few people that I ’ ve worked with during the span of my career at CCS logistics that have played a major role in my career development and have even contributed to my personal growth . I dedicate this win to them and will continue to strive to inspire others as they inspired me .
