Spotlight on the cold chain in Africa By Lizelle van der Berg , director – GCCA Africa
The Global Cold Chain Alliance ( GCCA ) is a trade association representing the temperature-controlled supply chain , including cold storage , transportation , construction , equipment suppliers and service providers .
The Global Cold Chain Alliance Africa would like to thank all our members for their commitment in growing and strengthening the cold chain in Africa . There are various reasons why we have the spotlight on the cold chain in Africa . Apart from an increase in interest when it comes to investing in the cold chain in Africa , loadshedding affecting food supply and food safety and unreliable water supply our members have also worked together to improve various aspects of the cold chain . We have come a long way in creating this cold chain community and this community was mentioned a few times during my trip to GCCA Head Office in the United States in December . At the very heart of the cold chain community are our Council and Committee members .
In October 2022 GCCA announced the revamping of the existing GCCA South African Advisory Council to include a broader leadership group comprised of warehouse and transportation operator members in Africa . The new council is titled the GCCA African Advisory Council . The purpose is to create a more agile structure engaging more members in Africa . In November the council members serving on the 2023 African Advisory Council were announced and in
December GCCA announced the 2023 committee members that have pledged their time and commitment to serve on the committees .
