17 years in June.

insulated and climate-controlled chamber (cold
chamber). The same is done for the condenser
(hot chamber). This approach is used specifically to
allow all components in the refrigeration machine to
experience the respective chamber air temperature
and humidity. This will more closely simulate real-life
operating conditions for the machine.
The cold chamber is specifically sized to represent
the dimensions of an insulated body for truck trailers,
15.3m (length) x 3.4m (width) X 3.6m (height). The hot
chamber has functionally practical dimensions of 3m
(length) x 3.4m (width) x 4.6m (height).
Several measurements are taken during the
operation of the calorimeter. These include the
said refrigeration capacity, the compressor suction
and discharge pressures and temperatures, the
condenser exit temperature of the refrigerant as
well as the refrigerant pressure drops through the
heat exchangers. For diesel-powered refrigerators,
they also measure the torque and speed on the
compressor shaft to determine the compressor
power input. This latter measured quantity is used
to determine the coefficient of performance (COP)
of the refrigerator. All measurements are logged
and processed using a data acquisition system and
personal computer.
After the formalities, guests enjoyed some light
refreshments and interaction with the Valeo team.
Some even went to the Transfrig offices for a closer
look at its refrigerated and Cryo units. CLA
Transfrig (member of the Valeo Group) sees the end of an
era when Bill Wilson retires from the business at the end of
June this year after nearly two decades of involvement in
the business.
“Bill has made a valuable contribution to the
phenomenal growth that Transfrig has experienced in his
time with us,” says Peter Solomon. “His deep knowledge of
the business is going to be missed.”
“He has become a well-known, respected professional
in our industry amongst colleagues, customers and
suppliers, bearing testament to his character and
successful business career,” says Solomon.
Wilson became a shareholder in Mornay Trading shortly
after the company acquired the Transfrig brand, making
him a key part of the business from inception.
Although Wilson’s passion is engineering, he has been
involved in every aspect of the business over the past 17
years. “His patient demeanour and logical approach to
problem-solving are two of his many strong points,” says
Solomon. “Many who have worked under his leadership
have benefitted and learnt from this.”
“We wish Bill well and thank him for everything he has
done for the company as his nearly two decades with us
come to an end,” concludes Solomon.
