COFFEE MERIT DAYS- fun & Learning
This year, COFFEE students have had the opportunity to earn several fun and educational merit trips. With the emphasis on making students college and career ready, students who have demonstrated the ability to be attentive, productive and respectful in academic and occupation classes have been rewarded with some interesting and informative opportunities. Check out some of these great "trips".
SOUTHWICK ZOOMOBILE Although this merit "trip" only involved a short stroll down the hall to the computer lab, it was still an interesting and informative day. A zoologist and her assistant brought a diverse selection of animals including a skink (No, not a skunk, a skink!), alligator, hedgehog, armadillo, and even a kangaroo. Students learned about the adaptations , habitats and habits of the animals. In addition, the presenter discussed the employment opportunities that the zoo offered and the academic and training requirements for the various positions. A question and answer period followed, and several students expressed a desire to work with animals as a potential career.
PATRIOT PLACE- A short while before Tommy and company shocked the world with their come from behind SuperBowl victory, COFFEE students paid a visit to Tom's place, Patriot Place. Students got to tour the facilities and look at some of the past and present Patriot greats. In addition, students were given a special presentation that included a discussion of the many employment opportunities that the Patriot's organization and Patriot Place have to offer. In fact, our presenter was the perfect example of how getting one's foot in the door and being a responsible, reliable and respectful employee can lead to great things. She started as an unpaid volunteer, and she is now in management!
