Welcome to the first-edition of The Coffee Times. This magazine presents some of the work students have done in the academic and occupation classes. This year, teachers in the ELA, history, and science classes worked collaboratively to create cross-curricular lessons around Rebecca Skloot's highly acclaimed non-fiction book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. Interwoven in the poignant story of Henrietta Lacks and her family are the stories of Jim Crow, scientific advancement, medical ethics and many other relevant and fascinating educational topics.
