Hemophilia is just one of many diseases that can thank HeLa cells for helping to develop therapies and cures. As a genetic disorder, scientists are now exploring the use of gene therapy to treat the disease. Gene therapy in general can also be attributed to the HeLa cell line. In the early years of research with HeLa, scientists were able to combine HeLa cells with other cells and change the functioning of the cell it fused with. This was the beginning of research related to potential "gene therapy" to treat diseases with a genetic cause.
