HeLa cells have been used in the research of many different diseases. One disease that has used Hela cells in research studies is hemophilia. What is hemophilia? It is a rare genetic disorder more common in men than women. The disease doesn't allow your blood to clot properly , making it hard for you to stop bleeding if you are cut or bruised etc.
A genetic mutation causes hemophilia. Though it is a rare
condition, people can inherit it through one of the X chromosomes from either their father's one X chromosome or their mother's two X chromosomes. Hemophilia can vary from person to person in its severity. It only takes one altered gene in each cell to cause the condition.
