Whilst all this is happening right now, the Australian media chooses to use a platform that should raise awareness, provide a voice for those you don’t have one and INFORM the Australian public on FACTS about issues relevant to our collective interests – to report on bloody vegemite!

Regardless of whether or not our national icon breakfast condiment has been used to make alcohol, this whole saga begs the question of who is held accountable and what kind of repercussions they face when unfounded, unproved rumours are used to make despicable, horrific claims that make their way into the media and are splashed across the front page of newpapers and blasted into lounge rooms of millions of Australian’s and are reported as COLD HARD FACTS.

The Australian media should be held accountable for publishing such a severely damaging article without proof of facts. The continuing portrayal and reinforcement of negative stereotypes based on unfounded HERESAY and RUMOURS by a few people has got to stop. And people rushing out to ‘ban’ vegemite takes us back to prohibition days where an immature solution to just take things away from people instead of exploring any kind of deeper understanding to complex issues is proclaimed!

SOCIAL CHANGE demands the practicality of communities coming together, of us all respecting our fellow citizens and creating ways we can get to know each other better to understand the root causes of things that affect our Communities – good and bad. We all have that responsibility to the next generation of children born in this Country.

It was good to see that Aboriginal people themselves do what they do best and found some humour in such an absurd piece of reporting!
