CAROLE RYDER
ADSO-FS SECLIS -S
East Rockway, New York
After serving in the New York Guard since 1986, Carole Neidich-Ryder joined the U.S. Coast Guard Auxilliary in 2014 to continue serving the military. An avid outdoors- person, I qualified as an Auxiliary Boat Crew member and met another Auxiliarist, Yvonne DeSalvo, who introduced me to the AUX-FS program. I trained with Auxiliarist Joe Villifane and qualified as an AUX-FS at Coast Guard Station Jones
Beach in January 2016. Since joining the Auxiliary, I have volunteered over 2,400 hours of direct support to the U.S. Coast Guard, most of which has been served in the galley at Station Jones Beach. I have cooked on the USCGC Katherine Walker, USCGC Sturgeon Bay and Barque Eagle, cooked at Sector New York and Station New York. I attended Coast Guard Culinary Symposiums at Sector New York. The largest event I cooked for was at a Sector Change of Command that fed over 500 persons. In addition to cooking lunch and occasional breakfasts or dinner at Station Jones Beach, I cook holiday meals at the Station on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.
I credit my mother as the inspiration for her love of cooking. My mother cooked for a U.S. Navy Officer's club; the Floridian Hotel and a Convent. At home, my mother never cooked a small amount of food, "so our house was always full of guests or neighbors kids who enjoyed my mom's cooking very much". Depending on the day, you can find Carole at Station Jones Beach cooking, baking or food prep for the CS's. Whatever the job, I am happy to help out and enjoy making Coasties some great food.
