F or me, coaching is all about the people you’re dealing with. If you build a good relationship with them, with everyone important in their lives, that’s when you can get the best out of them. And that’s true regardless of any physical limitations. What does become important with disabled players, but is a fact that should be used all over sport, is finding a way. That can be finding a way to get around a physical disability, or finding a way to play spin within a player’s existing technique. That is also where our slogan came from, our hashtag: #teamthatworks. Taken from the ideas of Martin Hewitt, an incredible adventurer who was injured in Afganistan in 2007 but has gone on to do extraordinary feats, who said anything is possible with three things: • Preparation • Adaptability • A team that works.
