Cadets
The Guildford Grammar School Cadet Unit has a proud and
long history, from its inception in 1904, to its present-day
structure.
The aim of military training within the Australian Army Cadets
(AAC) is to:
• promote youth development in a military environment
• foster an interest in the Army and its traditions
• develop the qualifies of leadership, self-discipline, self-reliance
and initiative, and provide training
As with any army cadet unit there is an element of drill, but the
students also participate in a range of other activities: canoeing,
rock climbing, abseiling, mountain biking, camping (field craft),
field engineering, survival, navigation, community service, first aid,
radio procedures, firearms handling and marksmanship.
All uniform and equipment is loaned to cadets at no cost and
there is no additional charge for any of the activities.
Cadets attend one weekend bivouac per term in Terms 1-3,
often held jointly with Christ Church Grammar School and St
Hilda’s There is also the option to attend promotion courses
and annual camp during school holidays.
Cadets is a full year program, but participation in other aspects
of the co-curricular program in conjunction with the cadets,
such as Keys for Life, may be possible by negotiation.
