IDAHO has 31 scenic byways , so it ’ s not hard to find a good ride anywhere in the state , especially if you love to take the road less traveled .
The Idaho State Rally was in Challis this year , so we had the opportunity to travel a large part of the Peaks to Craters Scenic byway . This might be one of the most underrated scenic byways in the state , which is okay because traffic is generally light .
We traveled 80 miles of this 140-mile byway , from Arco to Challis . It wasn ’ t far for us to go , full services were available along the way in Mackay ( pronounced mack-ee ) and then Challis .
It ’ s a two-lane road with passing lanes where feasible , but this is a ride to just settle in and enjoy some truly diverse scenery , from lava
