RECOMMENDED RIDES left to continue with HWY 27 . This section of HWY 27 has some sharp curves with beautiful scenery , so pay attention because some of the curves can sneak up on you .
Once you drop into Danville , you will have a break from the curves . Continue 9.5 miles to Havana , where you will turn north and ascend Mt Magazine . Many signs signal where you turn , so you shouldn ’ t miss it unless you are looking at your GPS . I give you fair warning here ; the roads are not smooth and have a few switchbacks with sharp turns throughout . You have about 9.5 miles until you turn left and head to the Lodge to look around and grab some food .
The restaurant is basically a sandwich shop for lunch . That ’ s ok since you may want to take a walk to the highest point in Arkansas after lunch . If you ’ re up for a hike , several trails have great views of the valley below . If you brought a motorcycle , so you didn ’ t have to walk , then hop back on and take a left out of the Lodge . As you wind back around to AR 309 , there is an overlook , Overlook Drive . You should take a peek at it before leaving the mountain .
The ride north is scenic with gentle curves ending at a tee intersection where you will turn left onto AR 109 , heading back to HWY 10 . Hang a right on to HWY 10 for about 6.5 miles and turn left onto HWY 23 , heading down to HWY 71 . At the intersection , turn right and go to the Mansfield red light . Here you will turn left and continue to AR 96 toward Hartford .
When you get to US 59 , turn left to Heavener . Heavener is a good place for gas ; the next station is in Smithville . Continue south on 59 until you arrive at the turn-off for 259 . This highway will take you through nice , curvy roads and Three Sticks , where the sport bikes like to play . The monument is a good pull-off to take in the view and grab a drink out of your saddlebag . Didn ’ t you carry a drink ? That ’ s ok ; just down the road is a gas station . Continue south for about 14.5 miles , where you turn left onto OK 4 , heading to Cove and HWY 71 . Once you arrive at Cove , turn left and head north back to the Iron Mountain campground . Depending on what you do while on this ride , you are looking at the better part of the day . My recommendations are to eat at the Mt Magazine Lodge just to say you have , and eat supper at Baja Rio ’ s in Cove . In addition , I recommend you try the Pinche Chimi . CMA
