friend and I recently went on a ride to scope out a location for a Youth Movement trip. I decided to ride my adventure bike, just for the fun of carving the high mountain twisty roads I figured I would come across. My friend Kent and I, both on 900 triples, headed out on a cool morning of 53 degrees to cover the loop I had mapped out. We started and ended at a gas station in Roseburg, but you could start this route from anywhere, like Medford or Klamath Falls, maybe even the Bend area of Oregon, which would all work to hit this loop.
We had a short stint of Interstate 5 before heading east at Canyonville onto the Tiller Trail Hwy. What a fun road; it gradually rose higher and higher in elevation, and the twisty roads just got more fun as we went. It was a bit cold as it got down to 42 degrees and with mist, but the sun came out, and it warmed up as we stopped in Shady Cove for gas and a restroom break on Hwy 62. Just a couple of miles east, we turned onto Butte Falls Hwy, and once again, we started climbing into the beautiful, higher-elevation forests and superb, twisty mountain roads. Our next stop would be Fish Lake at 4,645’ elevation. There are public restrooms and a small store-restaurant that serves burgers and sandwiches, with nice picnic tables outside to enjoy the mountain air and the lake ' s scenic beauty.
Leaving Fish Lake behind, we traveled east on 140, with views of Upper Klamath Lake, then north up West Side Road towards Fort Klamath. From there, we headed north up Hwy 62. This short section got pretty
