Club Skills Guide 2015 | Page 13

CLUBSKILLSGUIDE While chronological age is the guide for these checklists, it must be understood that young players develop at different rates and relative age effect (RAE) is an issue, as competitions and player selection often has a bias to those born early in the year. Some players perform better because of maturation. Therefore, the age and stage consideration is simply a guide for coaches and a framework for thinking. While the checklist of skills aids content selection, the ability of the learner, teaching and coaching by the coach, and the way the skill is coached, becomes fundamentally important. The Basic Skills Master Checklist summarises the key basic skills. It is an evolving list that can be expanded or condensed depending on the knowledge of the coach. 10
